Herberg

The history of Herberg Onder de Linden dates back to 1735. During that time the inn was the first stopping-place between Friesland and Groningen where one could eat and stay overnight. That is still possible, as the inn also has rooms. When the sun is shining you can sit on the terrace between the flowers and herbs and on a cold day you can enjoy your aperitif by the fireplace. Herberg Onder de Linden has a light classic kitchen with modern Asian influences and non-everyday wines. Steven and Tanja Klein Nijenhuis show -both in the interior and on the menu- that classic and modern combine perfectly when mixed with some spirit and flair!

Tanja & Steven Klein Nijenhuis

Jeune Restaurateur

From washing dishes to being a chef awarded with a Michelin Star. Chef Steven Klein Nijenhuis is autodidact, he started of washing dishes to be able to pay for his trip around the world together with his wife Tanja. He wanted to taste the world in Asia, South-America and Israel. Back in the Netherlands Steven followed a short course at the Culinary School and immediately started working as a head chef where he learned by trial and error. In 2013 he opened his first restaurant and within the year he was awarded with a Michelin Star. In 2016 he took over Herberg Onder de Linden.

Cuisine

We cook without a menu in order to decrease waste. You can just tell us how many courses you would like to eat and if you have any allergies / dietary wishes. Our cuisine is modern French with Asian influences and Dutch, preferably local, products.

You can also stay the night in the inn. Experience a unique overnight stay in one of our lodgings, including a rich breakfast downstairs in our restaurant.
