Sommelier: Hans-Jörg Unterrainer (JRE)
Good to go eat belongs undoubtedly to the quality of life! Taken this motto to the host church to heart and pampers guests with the finest dishes from the region. The star of the kitchen is the product. True to this motto we use in the church host only the highest quality in order to refine this and therefore set ourselves apart from the average.
The excellent cuisine paired with the incomparable ambience and the personal commitment of the Unterrainer family is also the reason why the church host in Leogang in gourmet guides is no longer a secret.
Also when it comes to companion beverages, Hans-Jörg Unterrainer, himself a sommelier, follows his own highly individual path. The focal point is provided by top-quality wines outside the mainstream, but also exciting drinks removed from the traditional world of wine: For “Back to the Roots”, with its vegetarian alternatives, for example, there are interesting alcohol-free options such as green tea or their own drink made from pear syrup.
In the impressively restored rooms of the two-floor wine cellar, the best wines are stored, and not only from Austria; large formats, rare vintages, a considerable collection of fortified wines along with Sakes give this beverage selection a character that is quite striking.
Enter the Kirchenwirt and the door to hectic rush and every day life closes behind you – respire, relax and savour! You will find a personal atmosphere only a hotel can offer, where guests are treated like family by the family itself.
Our guests can choose between seventeen rooms in the main building and five apartments in the ‘Wirtsgut Estate’.
All of the seventeen guest rooms are distinct, quiet and comfortable. The precious furnishing and the plain shaping promise recreation and the possibility to retire. In our house you will find four pine wood rooms – our ancestor’s wood and the wood of the next generation. All rooms are equipped with bath tub/shower, WC, telephone, radio, TV and WLAN. Start your day with a generous breakfast, where we offer various products of the region – nothing less is offered to you than to emperors and kings back then…
Homemade, heartily flavoured bread is one of the chef’s driving passions. Also homemade are the jams for breakfast as well as herbal salt and wild herbs.
For the Unterrainer family, it is important to venerate older culinary traditions: Every year in autumn, they celebrate “Tyrol Weeks”, during which they draw upon family recipes once cooked by their great-grandmother from Tyrol, which the kitchen then gives a contemporary interpretation; dumplings, Schlutzkrapfen ravioli and Kaskrapfen pasties, as well as chamois and other wild game from their own hunting grounds.
Leogang , a town in the inner Pinzgau, is a paradise of outdoor sports in summer as well as winter. The region’s special attractions include a wonderfully varied selection of bike tours that are also suitable for hobby cyclists. Mountain tours can also be enjoyed with the help of E-bikes, with a number of recharging stations located in the area.
In winter, the Asitz lift and the new Steinberg lift also provide a link to the ski areas of Saalbach-Hinterglemm, here in one of the most diverse and beautiful ski regions in all of Salzburger Land.
Cultural Tip: Saalfelden Jazz Festival at the end of August; Mining & Gothic Museum in Leogang.
Shopping Tip: Feinkost Hutter directly across from the Kirchenwirt, a small paradise for lovers of fine wines and brandies as well as exquisite delicatessen products.
