Saxony-Anhalt

Stories of past times & cultural highlights

Saxony-Anhalt has the northernmost wine-growing region in Germany, the Saale-Unstrut region. It is famous for its Little Red Riding Hood sparkling wine. Many cities in Saxony-Anhalt testify to its great importance in the Middle Ages, for example Magdeburg and Halberstadt. Saxony-Anhalt can also boast some World Heritage sites: the Bauhaus Dessau, the Luther towns of Wittenberg and Eisleben, Quedlinburg's Old Town and the Dessau-Wörlitzer Gartenreich (Garden Kingdom) have been chosen by UNESCO for this purpose. The most famous former salt town is Halle, the university town on the Saale is now regarded as an important cultural centre. On 31 October 1517, he presented his famous 95 theses to the door of the castle church, thus triggering the Reformation of the Catholic Church. Tourists like Saxony-Anhalt especially because of the "Garden Kingdom Dessau-Wörlitz". This landscape work of art with English parks, castles, pastures and rivers and lakes lined with small architectures was created in the 18th century.
