Markus Pape grew up in Sauerland. His grandmother cooked for him every day -pea soup or pancakes with apples from their own garden. This inspired the chef of the Meisenheimer Hof at a young age and gave him a sense of the gems you can find in your own garden. Pape was taught at "Hotel zur Post", by Jean-Claude Bourgueil and Dieter Müller. Since 2013, he has been running the kitchen of the Meisenheimer Hof and has since spoiled his guests with regional delights - just like his grandmother used to do.

A restaurant with its own winery - what a luxury! Guests can enjoy the wine in the wine bar "Zur blauen Meise" or in "Grotto", the wine cellar of the house. One floor up, Markus Pape serves the finest dishes, such as liver spaetzle from Glan cattle, calf's head with bergamot foam or wild black pudding.
If you prefer vegetarian food, go for the “Erdesbacher” goat cheese with bulgur salad, avocado and soy. Whichever way you decide go, regional products will end up on your plate with the refined touch of the top chef.
The most important wine growing region of the whole republic
Wine, wine, wine. It grows almost everywhere in this country: Mosel, Nahe and Ahr, Rheinhessen, Pfalz and the Middle Rhine are the best known and most important wine growing regions of the whole republic. The small federal state is almost exclusively left bank, i.e. west of the Rhine, and is with the Westerwald and northern Taunus, the Eifel, the Hunsrück and the Palatinate Forest with its rivers and fertile river valleys a popular Urlaubsregion. The many castles and palaces attract many tourists every year.
Mainz and Trier, Worms and Speyer are cities originated in the Roman period and in the Middle Ages. Idar-Oberstein is world famous for its gemstone and semi-precious stone grinding shops and the densely wooded highlands of Rhineland-Palatinate offer ideal hiking areas where you can still encounter deer, fox, pheasant and other animals.
