Restaurant Vive La Vie is a stone's throw away from the Martini Tower in Groningen. The restaurant has been rebuilt and decorated by owner and chef Jeroen Sportel. He wanted to create a friendly setting with a quiet atmosphere, in the middle of the busy city centre of Groningen. The open kitchen is literally and figuratively the beating heart of the matter. Here, one finds the classic French cuisine with Asian influences from Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. These dishes will take you to faraway places. Here, you can relax, leave the busy city life far behind you and taste the passion. In short: Vive La Vie!

His passion for cooking starts with a part-time job in a steakhouse, but it turns out to be more than just passion. Sportel wants to become a chef and gain experience in some of the best restaurants of Groningen. After his culinary training, he starts working at Restaurant de Vlindertuin in Zuidlaren, owned by chef Jilt Cazemier. Here, he learns to work with fresh products, to attentively look at nature and to cook from your heart. At De Vlindertuin, Cazemier gives him a free rein and the space to grow. The first Michelin star is soon-to-follow…
Sportel gets his first job as head chef at De Loohoeve in Schoonloo, where he is in charge for a period of five years. During this period, he contributes to the transformation of De Loohoeve from a “schnitzel restaurant” to a renowned culinary place.
His travels through Asia are a great source of inspiration for Sportel's cooking style. He also gets a lot of his inspiration from his team. The chefs in his kitchen have gained experience in various renowned restaurants. They don’t only come to acquire knowledge, but also to bring it.

For Jeroen, cooking is a true passion. He always tries to be innovative in his dishes. French cuisine is the starting point, but influences from other continents will provide surprising flavour combinations. Jeroen uses the knowledge and skills that he has acquired during his culinary journey around the world.
