Award-winning fair-trade coffee

Moxxa Cafe

Moxxa Cafe: award-winning fair-trade coffee

Moxxa Caffè is committed to absolute quality and the tradition of artisanal roasting. Moxxa Caffè obtains its green coffee from farmers who work just as professionally and according to the highest quality standards.  It starts with the planting and selection of the varieties, moves on to the harvesting methods used and, finally, the choice of extensions and their implementation. The effort is worth it. Benjamin Pozsgai, for example, won the German championship title as a roaster at Moxxa Caffè in 2017/2018 and took third place at the world roasting championships in Guangzhou/China.

PIONEER FROM COLOGNE FOR FAIR COFFEE

Moxxa Caffè started out as a shop roastery with the aim of supplying its six coffee houses with self-roasted coffee. However, it has now grown into a roaster with two locations. The shop roastery is located on the nightlife mile of Cologne residents on Aachener Straße. Under the name "moxxa.caffè | Die Rösterei" you will find a coffee bar with a bistro and roastery.  When the coffee shop closes in the evening, guests can enjoy a glass of wine and a freshly prepared meal in a stylish atmosphere. A special feature is the winegrowers' battle, which takes place four times a year. Claudia Stern hosts the event, where the winegrowers present their current wines and a four-course menu accompanies them in the evening.

Owner Moxxa Cafe

The journey from shop roaster to coffee distributor

Coffee production required a larger, more professional environment as demand grew and roasting volumes increased. Such was the case in the up-and-coming district of Cologne/Mülheim where since mid-2019 the owners have been operating under the company name "moxxa.caffè | Im Carlswerk".  Here, you can find coffee expertise in modern industrial design in the Carlswerk area, on the site of a former cable company. Coffee lovers can get to know the entire spectrum of coffee here. You can enjoy freshly brewed coffee at the coffee bar, or you can attend a course at the in-house coffee academy, which will open in the fall/winter of 2019. Moxxa Caffè now sells its coffee nationwide.

Home developed coffee blends

The team around master roaster Savvas Katsidis develops the coffee blends themselves with a lot of passion. In choosing the green coffees to be used, the fact that each region's cultivation and vinification has an impact on taste is taken into account.  In combination, beans from growing areas that are geographically far apart often harmonize very well with each other: for the Espresso House Blend, for example, the roasting master combines Peruvian and Ethiopian highland Arabica beans with high-quality Robusta beans from India.

The product range

Currently, the product range includes five espressos, a crema variant, up to six different filter roasts, and decaffeinated espresso/coffee. Moxxa Caffè bears the seal of the German Roasters' Guild and has already been awarded the gold medal six times in the annual cupping competition. Additionally, Slowfood Germany included Moxxa Caffè in its producer guide for its commitment to fair and ecologically responsible agriculture and artisan roasting.

Fair-trade & roasted in Cologne

Quality, health awareness, fairness and sustainability are the priorities of the Moxxa team. Only fair-trade coffees, mostly from organic farming and sustainable agriculture, are used. Moxxa Caffè maintains long-standing relationships with its suppliers from the growing countries, including Peru, Honduras, Costa Rica and India.

Prioritizing social responsibility

The Moxxa Caffè team is currently working on establishing its own European coffee. In cooperation with farmers on La Gomera, Moxxa Caffè has grown coffee on several test fields. The climatic conditions, which deviate from the classic growing countries, pose a major challenge. The owners are excited about the harvest planned for autumn 2019.
