Ichigo Ichie

Restaurant Ichigo Ichie

With restaurant Ichigo Ichie, chef-owner Takashi Miyazaki brings the first kappou-style and kaiseki restaurant to Ireland. With his authentic Japanese haute cuisine, he soon was awarded a Michelin star in the 2019 Michelin Guide for the UK and Ireland. For three years, chef Takashi tempted diners with his small Japanese takeaway before eventually opening his current stylish restaurant in the heart of the city: Ichigo Ichie. The establishment has a moody, industrial feel. A few lucky guests get seats at the small five-seater counter to watch the chef work his magic up-close.

Chef Takashi Miyazaki started his culinary career at a 5-star hotel in Fukuoka, a city in the southern part of Japan. He trained in fusion teppanyaki cooking and traveled across Japan to learn different regional cuisines. His desire to experiment and re-invent traditional dishes was strong.

Ichigo Ichie’s cuisine

Ichigo Ichie translates to “once in a lifetime” and is a fusion between Japanese techniques and Irish ingredients. It is the first kappou-style Japanese restaurant to be opened in Ireland.  Diners can enjoy a “kaiseki” multi-course tasting menu with elaborately prepared dishes that change with the seasons. Next to this, there’s the “omakase” menu which changes every 6 weeks and mixes long-standing Japanese traditions with contemporary touches.  Favourites in the menu include the exquisite pistachio tofu with beetroot miso and apple blossom; and the Thornhill duck with cherry-smoked hay leek, scallion, fig and dried rice. It is no surprise chef Takashi’s outstanding cuisine was awarded with a Michelin star, and draws guests from near and far. The colourfully presented dishes are artfully arranged and are brought to the table by the chef and his knowledgeable team. Each dish can be paired with a choice of excellent sakes, chosen by chef Takashi himself.

Cork surroundings

Ichigo Ichie restaurant is situated in the heart of Cork, the second-largest city in Ireland, enclosed by the river Lee.  Within walking distance of the restaurant you will find many interesting sights, such as the National Monument, an early Irish Gothic national monument commemorating the rebellions. And the historic Cork City Gaol, a castle-like restored 19th-century prison that holds various interesting exhibitions.
