Rik Jansma is owner and chef at restaurant Basiliek. After his culinary education and work at various restaurants, Rik was hired by restaurant owner Wim Zwaart as chef de partie of restaurant Olivio, now called Basiliek. In 2006 Rik was offered to take over the business and didn’t have to think twice about saying yes. One year after opening restaurant Basiliek together with his wife, sommelier Tabitha, Rik was already awarded a star by Michelin. In addition to this, Gault Millau named Rik Talented Chef of the Year in 2008.

Basiliek's cuisine is influenced by traditional French flavour combinations translated to modern times. Chef Rik Jansma prefers to use local Dutch ingredients as much as possible and changes the menu based on the seasons. Chef Rik is always on the lookout for honest, high-quality products, which he finds at small farmers and producers who have their heart in the right place. As a result, he likes to work with produce as close as possible to the point of origin and keeps personal contact with the owners. In addition to this, the restaurant grows its own herbs and eatable flowers, which are turned into edible works of art on the plate. Among the favourites on the menu are the fried langoustine with tomato, lovage, smoked pork belly and tamarillo, as well as the filet of Hierden's lamb with zucchini, broad beans, savory, black olive and charred aubergine. Sommelier Tabitha Jansma will perfectly pair each dish with the right wine. On the extensive wine list you’ll find more than 400 choices from all over the world, including many amazing champagnes as well.
Located in the heart of the city of Harderwijk, Basiliek restaurant is housed in a former medieval chapel of the Convent of Saint Agnes. The restaurant is elegantly decorated, with a warm and modern feel mixed with the Gothic chapel atmosphere. An absolute eye-catcher is the glass wine library with special ladder, which was handmade for Basiliek. Restaurant Basiliek also has its own cooking studio and organizes cooking classes. Here, chef Rik Jansma shares his tricks and teaches you all about his culinary philosophy. Each cooking class has a maximum capacity of 12 participants. An interesting highlight within walking distance from the restaurant is Dolfinarium, a major marine animal park with touch tanks and dolphin shows.
