With a choice of a 5, 6, or 7-course menu, there is something for all tastes at Basiliek. All dishes are prepared with locally-sourced ingredients, so locally sourced in fact that Chef Yornie gathers his own fresh herbs from gardens nearby. The Nordic-inspired menu uses these herbs to create, amongst other things, flavoured oils and vinegar to complement the fresh vegetables, meat and seafood. The whole ethos of Basiliek is to keep things simple but ensure that every plate has something that will excite the tastebuds and keep diners wanting more. Sommelier Loeka Pietrowitsch has selected wines from the classic world such as France, Germany and Italy, but makes the occasional foray into the new world. In terms of the wine list, the team at Basiliek have hand-selected wines that are lesser known but that they themselves enjoy and believe that their guests will too.
The look and feel of Basiliek truly embrace the Scandanavian theme of different greens that are illuminated by multiple candles dotted around the tables. The overall effect is that of a home, one that remains as unchanged as possible from its original style to make the regular diners feel comfortable. The handmade crockery is understated and simple in beige tones to create a sense of tranquillity and allow the dishes to do the talking.
Basiliek will be offering cooking classes, demonstrations and cooking on location as a way to get to know the local community and to encourage young people to cook. Another idea is to invite guest chefs from other restaurants in the region to collaborate on certain nights to offer diners a new and exciting experience.
