Antonio Romero, better known as Toni Romero, has been the head chef at Suculent since it opened. Born in Nules in the Castellón region, Antonio began studying as a chef in 2005 at the Costa Azahar Hotel and Catering School in Grao de Castellón. During his time as a student, he took part in different cooking competitions, such as Spain Skills, coming 1st in the Valencian Community and 2nd in the national final. He also won the Interatún competition and the Trufa dels Ports Maestrats competition.
“Mojar lentamente” or “slowly dripping” is perhaps a peculiar way to describe a cuisine but in Suculent’s case, this is the best way to summarise what it is they offer. Deep, flavourful broths, jus, and juices are the cornerstone of the cuisine in this restaurant that places punchy, strong flavours above all else. Combine these stand-out flavours with locally sourced ingredients, tender meats and the influence of the local Catalunyan cuisine and you are left with a diverse, interesting and wholly unique menu. Guests are invited to indulge in one of the chef’s personally selected tasting menus or choose from a lighter a la carte menu that features a range of Mediterranean and Spanish dishes with a little something extra.
Simple, earthy tones of wood, leather and weave create an atmosphere that feels intimate yet convivial. Suculent is all about sharing, sharing food through the tasting menus, a cocktail and a glass of wine with friends, and an experience to remember. The amiable staff are on hand to guide diners through the tasting menu, perhaps recommend a cocktail to complement your dish from the a la carte menu, and make guests feel completely at home.
