Chef Arjan Kuipers graduated as a specialised restaurant chef from Cingel College in Breda and has since built up a fine track record in gastronomy. He was an apprentice at Michelin-starred restaurant Solo in Gorinchem and interned abroad at Michelin-starred restaurants in Copenhagen and Ireland. He worked as chef de partie at star-awarded restaurant De Gieser Wildeman in Noordeloos and as sous-chef at top restaurant De Lemonadefabriek in Streefkerk. Before opening De Ertepeller, he worked as a head chef at restaurant De Hoefslag and bistro De Ruif in Bosch en Duin for two years.
Host Mark van den Berg has international work experience through the Hilton Hotels in Canada, Antwerp and Rotterdam. He did that as part of his internships at de Hotel Management School in Maastricht where he gratuated in 2014. Among those things Mark has worked in various hospitality businesses in de Drechtsteden. In 2014 and 2015 he was assistent manager van restaurant Tijsterman during summer.

Arjan's cooking style is modern with a classic foundation. He loves working with local, seasonal products. For Arjan, it's all about taste and recognisability. He respects his ingredients. Together with the sommelier, the restaurant's experienced service team ensures that the guests lack nothing. The interior is cosy, with natural colours and spacious tables with plenty of privacy. They put a lot of effort in their wines, which they buy from specialized suppliers who know how to find the true gems of the wine world.
The inhabitants of Papendrecht used to be called “Ertepellers” by the Dordtenaren because they traded in peas. Many Papendrechters had fields on which they cultivated peas and other vegetables. The peas were harvested and peeled and taken by milkmen by boat to Dordrecht, where they were sold.
