Since 2013, Jan-Philipp Berner has been the chef in the gourmet restaurant of Sylter Söl'ring Hof by Johannes King. In his dishes he focuses on down-to-earth, regional, seasonal and honest products. His vegetables, fruits and herbs come from the surrounding countryside, and his fish and seafood are supplied by local fishermen. The most important thing for him in his work behind the stove, you ask? "The passion for good food and the constant desire to delight our guests!"

Jan-Philipp Berner’s goal was always "to get to know the top class - one, two, three stars". After years of apprenticeships with renowned star chefs, he came to work at Sylter Söl'ring Hof by Johannes King, where he was promoted to chef in 2013. With his culinary creations, Berner has convinced the gourmet world of his talent. He has been named the best young chef in Germany, and even Culinary Champion when winning the world championship in 2013.
Today, he is passionate about his undertakings on Düne; "to inspire my guests, to put the highest quality with precision on a plate, that's exactly my thing!"
In the open country kitchen of the gourmet restaurant in Söl'ring Hof, host and 2-star chef Johannes King and chef Jan-Philipp Berner conjure up truly culinary delights together with their team - using only the best ingredients that the island offers. In his kitchen, Jan-Philipp Berner relies on local and honest products.
He primarily uses regional and seasonal ingredients: vegetables, fruits and herbs from the farm's own garden, fish and seafood from the island’s fishermen. Every so often, Berner and King even fish the North Sea for fresh seafood with their own fishing boat.
"Meerumschlungen" is the northernmost state between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea - with the Wadden Sea on one side and impressive cliffs, fjords and beaches on the other. In Schleswig-Holstein, you can find charming cities like Flensburg, Kiel and Lübeck, the largest Baltic Sea ports in the region, but also the islands Föhr, Amrum and Sylt.
Jan-Philipp Berner strikes the right balance between excellence in cuisine and service, ensuring they are in harmony with the restaurant’s values and philosophy. He has that extraordinary skill and creativity and takes gourmet standards to the highest level possible.
