Daniel Schmidthaler

Jeune Restaurateur

Daniel Schmidthaler is born in Upper Austria, where he learns the chef's profession. Then he goes out into the world - he gains experience at "Tristan" on the island of Mallorca and at Formula 1. Later, he moves to Germany where he works at restaurant "Quadriga" in Berlin and even further north in the "Kutscherhaus" in Templin, which at that time is run by his wife Nicole. From there they go to Fürstenhagen together, where Daniel cooks himself a Michelin star with his exquisite regional cuisine. His Austrian side still emerges every now and again, so guests can expect to find some Austrian delicacies on the menu.

HOTEL ALTE SCHULE

For lovers of sophisticated, authentic cuisine

Idyllically situated in the Mecklenburg Lake District, "Hotel und Restaurant Alte Schule" is located in Fürstenhagen. It is the place of work of star chef Daniel Schmidthaler. He creates regional specialities in his kitchen, as well as refined culinary art. His menus are based on game from local hunting grounds, freshly caught fish from the lake district or exquisite species of forest mushrooms and natural herbs. The country hotel with its charmingly furnished rooms completes the experience

MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN

Spacious and sparsely populated

The state is called "Meeklenburg" with a long "e". Or in short: MeckPom. Hardly any other federal state is so widespread, spacious and sparsely populated. Its only big city is Rostock. The capital is Schwerin; the highlight of the state with its famous castle. Situated on an island, charmingly surrounded by a picturesque lake and park landscape, it is one of the most significant creations of romantic historicism in Europe and is currently home to the state parliament. Further north, the over 1700 kilometres long, beautiful Baltic Sea coast and the Müritz National Park attract more than five million tourists a year to the islands of Rügen, Usedom and Hiddensee. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern much of the old has been preserved: the impressive old seaside resorts of Warnemünde and Heiligendamm, the Low German dialect, the brick Gothic style of urban architecture and the untouched rural nature, for people seeking peace and quiet. And for those who want a little more city: Schwerin, Wismar, Rostock, Stralsund and Greifswald have a lot to offer with their old towns, harbours, universities and fine restaurants.
