Under the leadership of top chef Lukas Nagl, Restaurant Bootshaus (chosen as the best restaurant in Upper Austria by Guide A la Carte 2016) has become the Salzkammergut region’s gourmet hotspot in the briefest of time. Aside from beautiful lakeside terraces and an authentically styled restaurant with contemporary art on its walls, from May to September the daytime SeeSide restaurant, open daily, complements the culinary offer.

Sommelier: Lisa Wimmer
Lukas Nagl and his team cook with a commitment to purity, authenticity and rarity, incorporating high-quality regional products whose flavor is brought to the plate as naturally as possible. The values of today’s epicurean culture and their potential for transformation play an important role in their culinary philosophy – as do the equality between vegetables, meat or fish. Nagl’s artistry has been widely recognized, including with the “Trophée Gourmet for Creative Cuisine” from A la Carte in 2015, one of the country’s most coveted gourmet prizes.
The Gröller family’s 4-star-superior hotel is located on a picturesque peninsular on Lake Traunsee in the heart of the Salzkammergut. All 38 rooms and suites feature magnificent balcony views of the lake. From the Mini Lake Suites and the Salzkammergut Suite on the ground floor, guests enjoy private access to the lake as well as the hotel’s own private dock (only hotel with direct lake access). The wellness area comprises a sauna, steam bath, its own cosmetician, while also offering health treatments, massages and more.
Karst wines with a depth of flavor, Belgian Trappist beer and a pumpkin-apple juice-star anise reduction with ginger beer and lime zest – these are just three examples of how the two sommeliers, David Sitz and Julia Grashäftl, are impressively exploring new pathways. The wine selection comprises around 300 labels, very individual, and highlighted by a number of extraordinary rarities. These are complemented by some two dozen beers – from elegant Pilses to out-of-the-ordinary creations. In addition, carefully conceived alcohol-free variants are offered with every course. Multiple awards, such as “Wine Hotel of the Year”, the “Beer Crown” and the “Golden Tealeaf” underscore their high ambitions.
At the Geniesser Hotel, enjoyment of art and gourmet food represents a particular focus. The hotel’s own Kranabethhütte on the nearby Feuerkogel (a hiking area and popular skiing destination in winter) in Ebensee offers delightful refreshment opportunities in rustic-style dining rooms, both summer and winter.
The glorious natural landscapes of the Salzkammergut make it possible to enjoy numerous outdoor activities, while attractive excursion destinations, such as Gmunden – a town famous for its ceramics, also home of world-famous Schloss Orth – and the imperial town of Bad Ischl are within quick, easy reach. Sports lovers find excellent opportunities for water sports right next to the hotel (sailing boat just for guests), as well as a private swim dock and a beautiful lakeside wellness center. In the summer months, guided hikes and activity programs are offered, while hiking and biking tours, and golf courses all await in the immediate area. In winter, guests are able to experience local traditions as well as the nearby Feuerkogel family ski area.
