De Vrienden van Jacob is located at Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg. The restaurant resides in an authentic country house from 1909, located in the beautiful National Park Zuid-Kennemerland near Amsterdam, Haarlem and the coast. A warm and relaxed atmosphere, against a stylish and historical background. Chef Alain Alders works with seasonal, local and daily fresh products. On the menu you’ll find culinary compositions, because according to Alders: 'cooking is painting with flavours'. Initially, Alain Alders wants to become a carpenter, but he ends up in culinary school. During his training he interns at the Amstel Hotel and at Dikker & Thijs in Amsterdam. In both hotels, he sees that running a tight ship is essential for a business at a high level. At De Hoefslag in Bosch en Duin, he learns what hard work is. Alders continues his journey and starts as chef de partie at Hotel Corona in The Hague, where it's all about precision work and the ability to prepare dishes à la minute. After Corona, he becomes the sous-chef of Restaurant De Kersentuin. This is an educative period since - in the absence of the chef - he has to lead the entire kitchen team. In 1997, he first encounters Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg. Over time, he gets the chance to start his own restaurant here and as such De Vrienden van Jacob opens in 2002. The restaurant has been praised by many restaurant guides since its opening and was awarded a Michelin star in 2006.
Asked about the philosophy behind the Vrienden van Jacob, Executive Chef Alain Alders says: 'First of all, we opt for fair trade and fair flavours: most of our ingredients come from producers who receive a fair price for them. Naturally, the dishes are seasonal and region specific, plus I prefer light dishes without dominant ingredients. Love and passion for cooking, I wouldn't be able to do it any other way!'
In the breathtaking nature of the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park and a stone's throw from Amsterdam, Haarlem, Bloemendaal aan Zee and Zandvoort, lies the beautiful Estate Duin & Kruidberg in Santpoort-Noord. This authentic country house was built in 1907 commissioned by tobacco and tea merchant Jacob Theodoor Cremer. Together with his wife Annie Hogan, he lived in the largest house in the Netherlands.
Besides De Vrienden van Jacob, Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg houses 75 luxury hotel rooms, the trendy Brasserie & Loungebar DenK, five classic Period rooms -which are perfect for meetings, dinners, receptions or a high tea- and a conference centre with ten modern meeting rooms. Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg is also an official wedding location. There is ample free parking on the estate. Pets are not allowed.

It is possible to rent all or part of Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg for events, congresses, meetings, product presentations, lunches and (gala) dinners (for several hundred people). With five authentic Period rooms and ten multifunctional rooms, the possibilities for both business and private meetings are endless.
