Carelshaven started out as a modest sailors' inn at the "Twickelse" port authority. Over the centuries it has developed into a renowned 4-star hotel and restaurant in Delden. Since 2014, Alco and Evelyn van Berkel have been the happy owners of this illustrious hotel in Twente. In recent years they have brought back their hotel to the 21st century. The cuisine is contemporary, but the menu of course also contains traditional seasonal dishes.

Every season, Chef de Cuisine Daniël Nijkamp and his team put together a new menu with a focus on regional products. The team especially loves to work with the beautiful ingredients of the legendary Twickel estate.
"Basically, it's nature that determines our menu. We offer a variety of classic and contemporary dishes."

Less than 40 minutes by car from Carelshaven you will find our sister company Oranjerie Ruurlo. The romantic and stylish Oranjerie is located in the beautiful English landscape garden of Ruurlo Castle. The appearance is classical and belongs to the landscape type. The building was formerly used to show off expensive and exotic trees and plants from faraway countries.
At Oranjerie Ruurlo you can enjoy a delicious lunch, culinary dinner or a good cup of coffee with breathtaking views. Through its high windows, the Oranjerie offers a perfect view of the castle and the surrounding park: the green grass, the castle canal with glass bridge, centuries-old trees and the characteristic rhododendrons. Perhaps the most beautiful view of the Achterhoek. www.oranjerieruurlo.nl
Carelshaven is located on the almost seven centuries old Twickel estate, 4,300 hectares in size. Characteristic are the castle, the historic farms and the small-scale coulisse landscape. A cultural landscape in which forests with centuries-old oaks, heather and fens, fields and meadows alternate.
On the estate there are 148 farms (recognizable by the black and white shutters), two water mills, a water tower and sawmill.
In 1772, Carel George van Wassenaer Obdam, owner of the estate in the eighteenth century, commissioned the construction of a sailors' inn and harbour on the Twickelervaart, where skippers could negotiate with each other about their cargo (mainly wood and textiles). First innkeeper Nicolaas Böhmer displayed the sign for Carelshaven in 1776.
