Marko Karelse has the time of his life as a kitchen assistant in a trucker's cafe in Spijkenisse. He knows for a fact, he wants to open his own restaurant one day. Karelse decides to go to culinary school in Rotterdam. In his final year he gets to intern at Restaurant Villa La Ruche in Voorburg. Karelse thinks he can cook, but soon finds out that he still has a long way to go. From patron-cuisinier Geo Bosma he learns the tricks of the trade. Karelse continues his way and starts as chef de partie at Restaurant Castellane in Rotterdam. On the last day of his probationary period he is invited for a beer at Villa La Ruche. Chef Bosma wants him back and Karelse accepts his offer. Villa La Ruche is the place where he started as an apprentice at the age of 19 and now he becomes head chef. Karelse went through an enormous growth as a cook, only to become the owner of Villa La Ruche in 2009. On the day of the opening, he asks his partner Erica - who has no previous training in the hospitality industry - if she wants to help out. Ever since then, she has always been the hostess of Villa La Ruche.

Restaurant Villa la Ruche consists of three rooms that can be separately closed off, or pulled together for larger groups. The intimate restaurant can be converted into a meeting room, or even a reception and party area.
