In a magical lakeshore location, this delectable gem with an inviting dining room and secluded garden has established itself amongst Carinthia’s top culinary addresses. The restaurant is perfectly conceived complete to the tiniest detail. All materials – from the clay plasterwork, to the rusty iron wall and the lovely vines – are all features absolutely consistent with the vineyards themselves. There is only one dining room, with large oak tables, which also serves as a place of encounter.

Markus Rath captivates his guests with authentic, exclusively regional cuisine. Spontaneity is a major focus – their own gardens and the surrounding farmers provide the basis for his lovingly prepared creations. Rath is a passionate proponent of honest staples and is absolutely convinced that you don’t need to have ten different components on a single plate. Puristic, clear, without any frills – likewise attested to by classics such as a delectable fried chicken as well as a sparkling variation on lake char. Multi-course surprise menus also enjoy exceptional popularity.
The wine selection assembled by Bianca Hirschmugl is also first class. The emphasis is on select organic wines from the Alps-Adriatic region, primarily those produced at their own Weingut Georgium, Carinthia’s number-one winery. Here, the Georgium’s vintner Marcus Gruze pursues a consistent path focused on absolute quality, convincing wine lovers with extraordinary Burgundies and Pinots created from organically grown grapes. The focus of the wine menu is clearly on Austrian, organically and bio-dynamically produced wines, complemented by carefully selected top European vintages. Naturally, their offer also includes high-quality alcohol-free juices.
Also rewarding, in addition to the neighboring Weingut Georgium, are a few minutes spent browsing the farm shop at the “Rathhaus”, where Markus Rath offers delicious (seasonal) homemade products such as wild-garlic pesto, potted chanterelles and a wide selection of jams, along with syrups and juices, fine oils as well as the very best from top producers, including the Gölles and Pfau distilleries as well as the small-yet-exquisite Carinthian brewery Loncium. Tip: Cooking courses by individual arrangement for groups of 4 or more.
The Carinthian tourism region Längsee-Hochosterwitz is the embodiment of pristine nature amid the gentle hill country of Central Carinthia (glorious hiking area), shaped by its three major landmarks: the Längsee, St. Georgen Abbey (founded in the year 1002) as well as Burg Hochosterwitz, a jewel of the Middle Ages. Golfers are greeted by the 18-hole course in St. Veit/Längsee.
