A culinary pilgrimage destination for diners who appreciate “the finer things”, also located right on a historical pilgrimage route leading to the monumental basilica in Mariazell. Traditional Landgasthof “Zum Blumentritt” in St. Aegyd am Neuwalde, surrounded by the densely forested mountainsides of southern Lower Austria, clearly embodies the personalities of sisters Christa and Ulli Hollerer; two passionate restaurateurs who, with their proverbial high spirits, are the driving forces behind the pleasant, family-style and uncomplicated atmosphere of their traditional pub and spacious dining rooms. The multiple-award-winning cuisine also has a very personal touch.

Sommelier: Christa Hollerer
While Christa Hollerer looks after her guests with infinite warmth and sincerity, Ulli Hollerer-Reichl takes charge at the stove. Her dishes are seasonal, regionally focused and full of creative energy. Traditional local favourites are a common thread through all of her menus over the course of the four seasons.
Pikeperch and trout rather than lobster, wild game from the surrounding forests, handed-down recipes in a refined guise – for the head chef, the goodness from even the simplest ingredients, such as potatoes, is decisive when it comes to overall quality. A true guest favourite amongst her various creations: Blumentritt’s goose-liver blood sausage.
The wine cellar – which, due to naturally high groundwater, is actually at ground level and naturally air-conditioned – is home to many outstanding labels spanning the geographic spectrum from Austria, to Bordeaux and South Africa.
The various mature vintages from Austrian vineyards merit particular attention, while many of those fine wines that have been assembled here over the years can also be purchased at very gratifying prices to enjoy at home. A true paradise for wine lovers. Alcohol-free highlights include a clear homemade apple juice as well as natural elder syrup.
With just 18 beds, the Landgasthof is also an exquisite gem of a hotel. Guests from near and far are able to enjoy a true timeout accompanied by the high quality of life that comes from so many delectable opportunities and a closeness to nature. The rooms feature very comfortable and individual décor, while the inexpensive prices also appeal, especially to younger guests as well as those wishing to have greater leeway to indulge their love for wines.
A sauna, steam shower and tanning studio add to the opportunities for relaxation. In summer, the new terrace beckons as an elegant retreat. Marvellous breakfasts, gourmet half-board.
Ulli Hollerer-Reichl ensures that she always has plenty stored away from the abundance of summer for her wintertime dishes, too: Porcini mushrooms are potted, while homemade stewed plums and apricots, elder compote and apricot-horseradish are welcome year-round ingredients. Jams made of white peach with pepper as well as rhubarb chutney prove wonderful accompaniments to cheese; dandelion syrup is destined for some of Christa Hollerer’s aperitif creations, while fortified green-walnut or egg liqueurs serve as perfect digestifs.
