Landhaus Bacher

Geniesserhotel

For many years, Landhaus Bacher has been one of Austria’s top addresses. Of its many honours, in 2014 it was featured on the San Pellegrino List as one of the world’s 100 best restaurants; a family establishment par excellence, run by Susanne Wagner-Dorfer together with Thomas Dorfer true to her parents‘ legacy.

Both continue an established tradition, but with fresh, individual impulses. The evocative atmosphere of this tradition-conscious, family-run restaurant is enhanced by the stylish decor of the fireside room and salon, while the romantic, shaded garden is a popular place of enjoyment in summer.

Susanne & Thomas Dorfer

Jeune Restaurateur

Cuisine

Head chef Thomas Dorfer, one of the great visionaries of top Austrian cuisine, has a masterful ability to lend country-style cooking a contemporary and often even avant-garde character.

Familiar dishes with deep culinary roots acquire a new dimension. Individual creations that reflect the passage of the seasons thrive upon special ingredients, especially those plucked from the world of vegetable rarities – a point of particular emphasis in his vegetarian menu! “Regional” is important, but not exclusively so: His thoroughly exciting dishes rightly belong to the international elite, whilst still managing to honour their Austrian roots.

Wines & Beverages

It isn’t only the kitchen that enjoys an excellent reputation extending far beyond Austria’s borders: The wine list, too, is one of the most outstanding in the entire country. The wealth of famous labels from the Wachau and Bordeaux regions stored in the cellars is practically legendary.

Reason enough for wine connoisseurs to pay a visit to the Landhaus and allow the sommelier team to suggest the perfect meal accompaniment. Yet with a selection of creative vegetable and fruit-juice creations, here, too, they have their finger very much on the pulse of the times! A comprehensive palette of digestifs.

Hotel

Geniesserhotel Landhaus Bacher is also a small, family-run hotel with ten individually furnished rooms. The elegant country ambience, with solid-wood furniture and many attentive details, makes any stay pure joy. Organic mattresses provide exceptional sleeping comfort, while the splendid breakfast with all kinds of homemade specialities is as appealing as can be, also supplying all the energy needed for an extended expedition through the Wachau region.  We recommend making reservations well in advance.

Special Activities

Under their own label, a number of fine foods are produced right here in-house, all of which can be purchased direct or ordered online. Their signature jam is made, of course, from Wachau apricots, serving as the benchmark for many. Also in their selection: sauces from fish to wild game, veal stock, mustard, walnut schnapps made from nuts out of their own garden. The shop also sells the Landhaus Bacher Cookbook.

Cooking courses with Lisl Wagner-Bacher and Thomas Dorfer lasting 1 to 2 days. Packages that include golf, culture & wine, wine & culinary themes.

Surroundings

Wachau is a UNESCO World Heritage Region located about one hour west of Vienna. It is one of the most striking, and also oldest cultural landscapes in Austria, home to historical towns and villages, and a wealth of art-historical treasures.

Furthermore, Wachau is one of the world’s very best white-wine regions, with many of the big names of the Austrian wine scene calling this region “home”.

With Mautern as your base, it is easy to explore both banks of the Danube.

Culture Tips: “Wine Town Krems”, Dürnstein – town of the Kuenringers, Melk Abbey, Göttweig Abbey, Krems Art District, Aggstein castle ruins, and much more.

Excursion Tip: Bicycle ride along the Danube Bike Path combined with a cruise on the Danube ferries.
