Vila Podvin

Vila Podvin is a part of the Podvin estate (first mentioned in documents already in 14th century) and it was altered from stable for horses into a restaurant with rooms in 1968. In Vila Podvin we explore tradition (local ingredients, local producers, local dishes, artisan and handicraftsmen, customs).

We are proud:
- that our house is adorned with Stane Kregar’s stained windows;
- that every 1st Saturday of the month our garden hosts Podvin market,
- to have arranged a pottery workshop
- to share our knowledge in the Uroš Štefelin’s cooking school (for children, adults and professionals);
- that we’ve linked up with other inns in Radovljica into Okusi Radolce (taste Radolca) …;
- that through research and creation we get to know our essence and share it with our guests, and that we are all together becoming more confident and proud to be Slovenes.
Moreover, it was the Podvin estate where Slovene constitution was written.

Uroš's cooking style is based on tradition, a love of his home, quality, freshness and caring for good health and the future. His source of inspiration stems from his own childhood when the family kitchen was full of the aromas of traditional Slovene dishes, when they prepared homemade sausages and enjoyed sweet treats such as dried must-pears. Have you ever tasted dishes such as must-pear risotto, must-pear ice-cream, pasta with must-pears, must-pear chutney, must-pear pralines? The neighbours have even started to sow them just because of him!

Uroš finds challenges in discovering forgotten local ingredients, getting to know them and creating new dishes in his own unique way. With modern techniques and creativity he transforms traditional dishes into culinary delights of Slovene Nouvelle Cuisine.

Special Activities

Culinary workshops for children, for adults, for professionals:
Adult participants will gain basic knowledge in the area of creating menus, matching dishes with drinks and tableware, and experience modern techniques of the preparation of dishes. They will be acquainted with local foods and with the possibilities of their use in the kitchen. They will gain the knowledge to be able to prepare the most demanding dishes using modern techniques.

Local Farmers Market
Every first Saturday in the month from 10am-12 noon at Podvin garden local food producers offer their products to sample and buy. There is also the option of having lunch at Vila Podvin, which is made using the ingredients from the Podvin market and prepared according to traditional recipes.

Enjoy our medival town of Radovljica, alpine hiking trails, great museums (Elan skies, Avsenik music, Beekiping museum, Iron forging museum...). Come to Slovenia's biggest chocolate event in Radovljica in Aprilwhere you can taste chocolate treats of all shapes and flavours.Bring your friends and family and enjoy the festival's concerts and street performances.
