Inside, you will find Dutch haute cuisine in a warm and friendly setting. Through the portholes of the former skipper's quarters in the deck-house, you have a look at the galley. A nice dinner or a great lunch can be enjoyed outside on the deck, while taking in all the beauty the Amersfoort area has to offer.
De Saffraan’s cuisine
Restaurant De Saffraan works primarily with local products. In his cuisine, chef Kars van Wechem combines refined Asian flavors with Dutch terroir. Farm-fresh, high-quality products are at the foundation of his creativity and craftsmanship. Specialties on the menu include the “garden of gado-gado” with pumpkin, sweet-spicy soy sauce, soft mild peanut sauce, seroendeng and coriander. And for those with a sweet tooth: a dessert of peanut ice cream with banana puree, kaffir lime leaf, chocolate and light caramel with pepper. Sommelier Monique Korteschiel is responsible for the excellent wine list, which includes surprising wines from Dutch soil. She will make sure to pair each dish with an excellent glass of wine, to complete your gastronomic adventure.
Ambiance
Situated on the water, in the heart of the city of Amersfoort, restaurant De Saffraan has a unique location. It is housed inside an old clipper ship that has been refurbished and transformed into a modern dining spot. On deck, you can enjoy your food and drinks with a gorgeous the view of the water and surrounding area. Interesting sights within walking distance of the restaurant include the Koppelpoort, a medieval landmark built in the 14th century. Art lovers won’t want to miss visiting the Mondriaan House, a modern museum with exhibits on artist Piet Mondriaan, who was born in Amersfoort.
