Restaurant La Leggenda dei Frati is named after the legend of three friars, who had gathered the best sprouts from their garden. Meeting in the Abbadia Isola abbey in Siena on a summer night, they ate and drank so much that they started singing and dancing.

Filippo Saporito is chef at restaurant La Leggenda dei Frati. After finishing his culinary studies, where he met his partner Ombretta Giovannini, Filippo worked at restaurants around the world, including restaurant Arnolfo in Italy, Sale e Tabacchi in Berlin, and Paolo Petrini in Paris. The time had come for him to open his own fine-dining restaurant in 2002. Together with his wife, chef Ombretta Giovannini, he opened the doors of restaurant La Leggenda dei Frati. There, the two talented chefs offer a culinary style that is intended to bring memories, emotions, and cultures to life.

Restaurant La Leggenda dei Frati

Inspired by this tale of Tuscan gastronomy, chef Filippo Saporito and chef Ombretta Giovannini aim to keep its spirit alive in their elegant gourmet hotspot. The restaurant is beautifully located in the garden of Villa Bardini, in the old stables of art collector Stefano Bardini’s residence – and just below the Romanesque church, where the friars were imprisoned after their escapade. Honoured with a prestigious Michelin star, the two top chefs prepare dishes that are creative, contemporary and terroir-based. You can enjoy their cuisine in one of the two intimate and tastefully decorated dining rooms, that can accommodate up to 25 people each. Or sit down on the romantic summer terrace, which overlooks the garden, the city, and the Santa Croce church. A unique setting for your culinary journey in Florence, Italy.

La Leggenda dei Frati’s cuisine

At restaurant La Leggenda dei Frati, chef Ombretta Giovannini and chef Filippo Saporito present a traditional kitchen with a modern twist. The chefs have an eye for sustainability and work with raw and seasonal products in the kitchen, which they transform into plates full of flavour. Paying homage to their homeland Italy, the duo excellently showcases a cuisine that is designed to convey emotions, memories and culture. The restaurant offers three menus with wine pairings, available in 5, 7 and 9 courses – but you can also order à la carte. You’ll discover exciting specialties such as beef tartar, chicken liver terrine, and pigeon with spinach, sweet garlic and chilli. There’s also a separate dessert menu, including delicious options like millefoglie with Diplomat cream. A real treat for our taste buds.

The restaurant is within walking distance of Florence's historic center, a destination of timeless architectural wonders that attracts tourists from all over the world every year.  Interesting sights include the picturesque Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, and Santa Maria Novella.
