Die Mühlenhelle

Restaurant Die Mühlenhelle

Gourmet restaurant Die Mühlenhelle is housed in a characteristic 18th-century farmhouse. Since 2007, this fine-dining spot has been in the hands of chef Michael Quendler and his wife Birgitta. Chef Michael and his kitchen team present modern European cuisine that’s refreshingly uncomplicated and straightforward. The chef exactly knows how to blend his Austrian roots with his Sylter experience. This results in his contemporary German cooking style, complemented by French haute cuisine accents. It’s a culinary combination that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the critics: hotel restaurant Die Mühlenhelle has been honoured with one Michelin star, two hoods, and 15 out of 20 points from Gault Millau.

Die Mühlenhelle’s cuisine

Chef Michael Quendler and his talented team bring fresh and modern food to the table. The chef’s dishes are harmonious, classically-based and excellently showcase the product's original flavour. Creating his menus, Michael always works with high-quality, regional vegetables, fruits, meat and fish. Each month the chef presents three new multi-course menus, one of which is always vegan. You can also order these dishes à la carte. At hotel restaurant Die Mühlenhelle, the fine and well-balanced European cuisine is wonderfully complemented by good wine suggestions. You can tell that the sommelier has a special preference for German and Austrian wines, and she is more than happy to advise you. Together with a friend, she runs the northernmost vineyard in Germany on Sylt.

Gummersbach area

Hotel and restaurant Die Mühlenhelle is situated in Gummersbach, a town in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. This is Germany’s most populated state. Some interesting historic landmarks in Gummersbach include the Oberbergischer Dom (Protestant church in the old town) and the St. Franziskus (Catholic parish church). In Lieberhausen you can find the “Bunte Kerke”: a Protestant church with ceiling paintings, dating back from the Middle Ages. Adjacent from this church lies a restaurant where they serve the Lieberhauser pancake, a local delicacy.
