Andreas Hillejan is chef at Das Marktrestaurant. He has worked in numerous high-end kitchens, including those of restaurants such as the Steigenberger Parkhotel Düsseldorf, Herzog von Burgund Neuss, and Landhaus St. Urban Naurath. After this, he decided it was time for his own establishment. At Das Marktrestaurant in Mittenwald, Andreas turned his dream of having his own restaurant into reality. Here, he uses his culinary expertise to elevate the highlights of rural Alpine cuisine to a new level of excellence.

A chef who is honest as well as creative: owner and chef Andreas Hillejan understands the possibilities of rural cuisine. In Das Marktrestaurant, he has finalized his own concept of Alpine cuisine. Freshly harvested and locally grown products play the main role in all of his dishes. Specialties on the menu include the traditional char with wasabi, radish, miso and sea buckthorn; and the crispy pork belly with black salsify and onion. Each dish can be perfectly paired with an excellent glass of wine from the extensive wine list.
Das Marktrestaurant is situated in Mittenwald, is a picturesque town surrounded by Alpine peaks in Bavaria, Germany. Bavaria attracts many visitors for good reasons, including the fantastic Bavarian cuisine, the fine Franconian wine, and the beautiful scenery of the Alps. At the summit of the highest point in Bavaria, the 2963-meter-high Zugspitze, you have a beautiful view of the high alps and the Kaiserwetter. Interesting sights in the area include the historic Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and the Geigenbaumuseum, where you can learn about the history of violins. And of course, there’s the famous Oktoberfest, each year in autumn.
