In 2016, at the age of 24, chef Lukas Kienbauer opened his own gourmet restaurant. Growing up in Schärding, there weren’t any fine-dining locations around. That’s why this ambitious chef made it his mission to prove it is possible to start an haute cuisine spot in his small hometown in Upper Austria.

At restaurant Lukas there is no menu. Instead, you can choose between a full or a shortened menu. This results in elegant nine-course surprise menus that are playful and sophisticated. Chef Lukas Kienbauer’s menu is perfectly accompanied by individually tailored and seasonal beverages. In the kitchen, he often works with products from his own farm and cooks animals, such as poultry or fish, whole.

You’ll find restaurant Lukas in the historic center of Schärding. This baroque town in Upper Austria has a lot to offer when it comes to sightseeing. It’s the perfect starting point for excursions to Passau, the “City of Three Rivers” (15 km). The abbeys of Reichersberg (15 km), Engelszell (25 km), and the Alfred Kubin birthplace and museum (5 km) are nearby as well.
