The effective combination of creative cooking, professional yet youthfully-fresh service and a thoroughly cozy atmosphere are guarantees for the success of one of the major shooting stars of the Austrian gourmet scene. There is no printed menu, his surprise menus are – just as the perfectly matched companion beverages – individually tailored, whilst naturalness, seasonality, innovation and intensity of flavor are the unifying credo. Some of the products originate from his own farm, with animals, such as poultry or fish, often cooked whole.
Austria and Germany dominate the wine list, including many naturally produced wines. A unique feature: Rare vintages served by the glass thanks to the Coravin system! Furthermore, the selection of alcohol-free drinks is also impressive, especially the personally created refreshments with rice, lime leaves, cinnamon, spelt, apple, parsley, spruce or pine.
One absolute highlight for diners is the open kitchen, from where the preparation of dishes is even shown live (!) on television monitors. Many products delivered by Mother Nature herself also find their way into the kitchen, including nettles, spruce needles and watercress. The home-baked sourdough bread is a temptation in its own right, enjoyed best with their own homemade butter.
Schärding is a baroque town in Upper Austria. It has much to offer in its own right, whilst also serving as an ideal base for numerous excursions – to Passau, for example, the “City of Three Rivers” (15 km), to the abbeys of Reichersberg (15 km) and Engelszell (25 km), as well as to the Alfred Kubin birthplace and museum (5 km). For those in search of pure relaxation, the spas of Geinberg and Bad Schallerbach are within quick, easy reach. Other sightseeing highlights in Schärding itself include: the Silberzeile, the Linzer-, Passauer-, Schloss- and Wasser-Tor gates, the Granite Museum as well as the Baroque Garden & Orangery.
