Csencsits

Restaurant Csencsits

You’ll find restaurant Csencsits right in the heart of Southern Burgenland, near the Hungarian border. Throughout the years, this location has evolved into a splendid gourmet address, idyllically surrounded by woodlands and vineyards. Chef Jürgen Csencsits and his wife, sommelier Melanie, have transformed this family-run inn into a place where you can enjoy locally-focused cuisine. As a result, the restaurant is now an excellent meeting place for both locals and foreign gourmets. Behind Csencsits’ humble façade hide modern spaces with a dark interior, complemented by pops of colour and contemporary art. On pleasant spring or summer days, you can take a seat on the spacious terrace.

At the end of the day, starting a successful family business in a remote rural region all comes down to self-assurance. Before opening his own restaurant in Harmisch, chef Jürgen Csencsits worked as a sous-chef for the Austrian restaurant Taubenkobel for 15 years. His former workplace currently holds 4 Gault Millau toques.

Csencsits’ cuisine

Chef Jürgen Csencsits’ courses are always in tune with the current season. His extensive sequence of courses is known as the ‘Csencsits Menu’. The menu is strongly inspired by local ingredients. Think of lamb from Bildein, and pikeperch from Güssing. Fine-tuning flavours is what this chef does best. Jürgen works extremely precisely and shows a bold approach to aromas. His unique cooking style showcases his love for Pannonian herbal oils and a variety of spices. This results in culinary combinations that you’ve never tasted anywhere else before.

Harmisch & surroundings

The village of Harmisch is located in Southern Burgenland. This region has a distinctive flair. Here, you can explore the idyllic “Cellar Quarters” (Heiligenbrunn) or Moschendorf’s thatched buildings. You can also visit the wine areas nearby, in Eisenberg and Csaterberg. Four of our cultural tips include Schloss Erdödy, Schlaining and Güssing Castles, Csaterberg Stone Museum (for its collection of fossilized wood) and the village of Bildein (for its ‘wine archive’). For shopping local specialities, we recommend the Blumentalladen (Grosspetersdorf). If you’re looking for a hotel, you can stay at Wohnothek am Ratschen, Deutsch-Schützen.
