Chef Hans Kinkartz, the son of a milkman, earns his first pocket money at the local bakery. He decides to enroll in hospitality school. During his studies, he discovers that he desires to be a chef rather than a baker.

After working in the kitchens of several restaurants, sommelier Ellen first did a dietician course, as well as a patisserie course, to get more familiar in the hospitality field. She eventually entered the Wine Academy and got her WSET degrees. Next, together with her partner, chef Hans Kinkartz, she opened Atelier back in 1999. Here, Ellen pampers wine lovers with many rare labels, including a wide variety from the Netherlands and Belgium.

Restaurant Atelier will give you a mouth-watering dining experience. The appetizers are a hit right away, leaving an indelible impression. Lobster and croûte with chorizo ​​mayonnaise, and a combination of eel with miso, chives and horseradish are just a few examples. An enthusiastic, young kitchen team, led by chef Hans Kinkartz creates modern, innovative dishes, where recognizability in flavour and ingredient is essential. Both Lekker and Gault Millau have rewarded their attention to detail and seasons, as well as their passion and dedication. Wine lovers will also be pampered here, by sommelier Ellen Kinkartz. In addition to French-oriented wines, the wine list offers a wide variety from the Netherlands and Belgium.

Atelier restaurant occupies a historic building in the center of Gulpen, right on the market square, surrounded by small pubs, eateries and cozy terraces. Gulpen lies nearby the European cities of Maastricht, Aachen and Liège. The forest surrounding the restaurant and its rolling hills, make it an ideal place to enjoy the peace and nature, or to go hiking and cycling. Interesting sights in the area include Neubourg Castle and the Gulpener beer brewery, where the famous local beer can be tasted.
