At restaurant Le Saint-Lazare, chef Clément Bidard is the fifth generation to keep his family’s gastronomic tradition alive. In doing so, he showcases meticulous cooking techniques and innovative, terroir-based dishes that are a treat for the eye as well as the palate. In the kitchen, the young chef is accompanied by his father, chef Christian. As a successful father-son team, they’ve come up with a refreshing and exciting mystery menu that never ceases to amaze diners. You can savour the chefs’ specialties in the bright and modern dining room, or on the sunny terrace – if the weather allows it.

With its latest chef, Clément Bidard, a more than 120-year-old family tradition continues at restaurant Le Saint-Lazare. In 1899, Clément’s great-great-grandparents, bakers Ernestine and Jean-Claude, bought the site. Their family establishment started out as a bakery, grocery store and village restaurant for family celebrations and banquets. In 1992, the restaurant transformed slowly but surely into a more contemporary gourmet address, under the guidance of Christian Bidard and his wife Christine, chef Clément’s parents. These efforts don’t go unnoticed: in 1999 the fine-dining destination received a prestigious Michelin star, which was yearly renewed up until 2008. In 2016, chef Clément joined the kitchen team at restaurant Le Saint-Lazare. His mission is crystal clear: earning back that coveted Michelin star.

Together, chefs Christian and Clément Bidard present an innovative "carte blanche" mystery menu. Working with regionally-grown products and locally-sourced ingredients, the duo cooks up delicious delicacies. Think of surprising specialties such as confit duck leg with Sarladaise potatoes. Those with a sweet tooth won’t be disappointed either. To round off your culinary journey, the chefs prepare heavenly classics, such as panna cotta with red fruits.

L’Abergement Clémenciat area

Restaurant Le Saint-Lazare is located in L’Abergement Clémenciat, a comune in eastern Metropolitan France. In the nearby area you’ll find various historic sights (Cité médiévale de Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne) and specialty museums (Musée du Train Miniature and Musée Traditions et Vie). If you’re in an adventurous mood and not scared of heights, you can embark on a hot air balloon ride over the idyllic countryside.
